Meryl Stringell's oils shimmer with colour and form ... painted on the Sussex Downs around her home they evoke strong connections with the landscape and feelings of peace and place. Meryl was born in Colchester in 1939. In 1994, as a mature student, she graduated from Camberwell college with a joint honours degree in Fine Art and Silversmithing. She moved down to East Sussex in 1997. Living close to the South Downs , her landscapes are inspired by the ‘Great Outdoors’. She looks for the soft greys of distance, the ever changing colours of the downs dictated by the weather mood, the winter patterns and the shimmering golds of the fields in Summer. She has shown her work in Suffolk, Kent and Sussex and since 1998 has been a frequent exhibitor with Francis Iles gallery in Rochester.
