‘Somewhere within the searching process of mark making and the application of pigment is an image which will assert itself. The image is illusive. Sometimes images appear early and remain relevant, sometimes layering goes on for many sessions before a satisfactory outcome is reached.’
Susan Mulley has mastered form and composition over a lifetime of teaching and practice as a professional artist. Starting her art journey at Goldsmith’s College of Art in 1964, she gained further Post-Graduate training at Manchester School of Art and Goldsmith’s again, before completing a Master of Fine Art at Louisiana State University.
Living in Montana and Alberta in the late 80’s, early 90’s she formed a love for the natural shapes of the environment and the vast landscapes of the USA and Canada. On her return to the UK she continued to balance her art practice with teaching, passing on her love of figure and form to innumerable students in a long and rewarding career.
Susan now paints for the pure joy of creating, as well as enjoying the challenges that her complex compositions bring her, from her garden studio in South London.
