“My work is expressionistic, more about feelings than representation of the natural world - intuition, reflection, contemplation and the ephemeral, ever changing nature of our reality. The paintings are abstract - palette knife oils, which I find particularly suited to abstraction because of the flexibility and textural feel. Inspiration is particular, often an image from my garden or the countryside around where I live, but the process is experiential. Feelings, experiences and memories fuse as colours and forms merge, until the painting reaches an inner harmony. The outcome is not known until it emerges – indeed many paintings share an initial idea with very different results. ‘Meaning’ lies in how the paintings make the viewer feel and the images and memories which they evoke in them.”
