Alexey was born in the city of Saratov on the Volga in 1959. He studied classical painting at art college and then studied in the Monumental Art department at the Academy of Fine Arts in St Petersburg, studying the art of mosaics, frescoes and stained glass.
After graduating he completed a large mosaic to commemorate the fallen of the Second World War, and he also created murals for the walls of a school, hospital and a dance hall.
He participates regularly in exhibitions in Moscow, St Petersburg, Kaluga and China, and his paintings are in the collection of the ERARTA Museum in St Petersburg and the national Art Museum of Kaluga. He lives and works in Kaluga, which is to the south of Moscow, with his wife Liubov Bazanova.
His work conveys the joy he gets from simple living - taking out unnecessary background detail, the women he paints inhabit a space that is harmonious, still and pure. They touch the intimate sides of everyday life whose value can be lost in the bustle and busyness of our days.
