Brian was born in Somerset and trained in Fine Art. He became an illustrator, working freelance for various publishers and agencies in London. A the same time he regularly produced and exhibited his own work, with a growing interest in portraiture, which increasingly formed a major part of his illustrative work.
He has exhibited at the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and his commissions have been many and varied, including Elvis Presley and George Melly for CD covers and Sir John Barbirolli to hang in Trinity College, London. Whilst living in Ireland, he was invited to produce a large painting for the Dail in Dublin, containing a number of portraits of Irish politicians and heroes of the Republic. He was later engaged as the Artist in Residence during the Irish general election campaign in 2002.
He moved to France in 1994, and found his work now progressing towards figures, rather than portraits. Now recognised as one of the countries leading figure painters, he has moved back to his native West Country and has regular shows in London, Belfast, Dublin, Paris and Rochester.
