Bonnie uses a method of Hinterglas (cold painting) that allows the application of Graphite and watercolour to glass. This method was developed by Rudolf Schmid, a prominent Bavarian glass painter in Germany, who in 1992 passed on the technique to Bews.
Bonnie was born in 1967 and raised in Queensland, a rural farm community in Southern Ontario, Canada. There she developed her imagination and keen sense of observation.
She met Schmit in Germany while traveling through Europe and impressed by her art work offered her an apprenticeship in his studio. Bews accepted and returned to Germany in 1992 to discover a whole new medium, ‘Hinterglas’
Bews held her first solo exhibition of Hinterglas paintings in 1993. Since then she has had many solo and group exhibitions where she continues to put this technique to practice.
We have a selection of Hinterglas paintings by Bonnie Bews for sale through our gallery and website.
